Zzyzx was the mysterious company responsible for the creation of both Kyle and Jessi.

[edit] Before season 1
Adam Baylin and William Kern worked together to create the company so that Adam's investigations into the human mind could continue. Adam, Kern, and Brian Taylor worked until Kern and Taylor betrayed Adam, causing him to flee into hiding.
Kern continued to do the experiments while Adam kept an eye on the place through Tom Foss. Once William Kern ordered the extermination of 781227, Tom rescued him, killing Kern in the process.

While Kyle's disappearance wasn't questioned, William Kern's was. Tom Foss resigned as head of security, but used William Kern's key card instead of his own. Dennis Bunker approached Tom about this, and Tom killed him.
Kyle, meanwhile, continued to investigate his past and managed to find Zzyzx headquarters. Cyrus Reynolds informed Rebecca Thatcher who ordered Kyle extermination. Cyrus goes after him, but is shocked to hear his "real parents" took him away.
[edit] Season 2
Zzyzx was still looking for Kyle and managed to trace him to Adam Baylin mansion. Zzyzx agents stormed the building and killed Adam Baylin. In retaliation, Tom Foss went to the Zzyzx building and firebombed it, killing everyone, except Jessi inside.
Zzyzx was later revealed to have been a branch company of the much larger Madacorp.

- Adam Baylin- Zzyzx creator. Left the company after realizing his backers had different plans.
- William Kern- University of Washington professor. Killed by Tom Foss as he tried to kill Kyle.
- Rebecca Thatcher- High-lever administrator in charge of Kyle's extermination. Killed when Tom Foss firebombed the building.
- Cyrus Reynolds- Head of security after Tom Foss's resignation. Unknown if he was in the building at the time of destruction.
- Dennis Bunker- Functionary in charge of Foss' resignation. Killed by Foss.
- Tom Foss- Worked at Zzyzx to watch over Kyle until he resigned and took Kyle with him.
