William Trager was the estranged father to Stephen Trager and grandfather to Lori and Josh Trager.

[edit] Before season 2
Stephen and William never saw eye-to-eye, mainly because Stephen was a science guy and needed proof to believe in something while William was a devoted Christian.
Stephen refused to marry Nicole at St. Augustine, which created an even bigger rift between them. Stephen wrote a letter to William in hopes that he would want to be a part of him family, but he ripped the letter up and never spoke to Stephen again.
[edit] Season 2
The Trager family received a call from Dr. Kheel saying that William had a stroke and would not make it through. Stephen originally felt little remorse saying that he had lost him chance to be a part of the family, but gained interest when Kyle began to communicate with William.
Stephen took Kyle to his old home and told him about William's actions and how they were never on good terms. Kyle refused to give up on trying to figure out what William was trying to tell him. Finally, Kyle managed to figure it out. William led Kyle and Stephen to the note that Stephen gave to him so many years ago, still intact. He had read it.
William died from his stroke during the night and Stephen thanked Kyle for all of his help the next morning.
