Lori's decisions come back to haunt her while on a camping expedition with Kyle, Jessi, Declan, Josh, Andy and Amanda when they stumble upon the ruins of Zzyzx in the woods.

Kyle arrives at the warehouse to see Tom Foss has mysteriously returned. Kyle accused him of attacking Lori but he insists that while he did threaten Declan with her picture, he did not attack her. Tom refuses to say where he went and Kyle refuses to continue training.

A flashback to fifteen years ago shows Zzyzx, where Adam Baylin is in his office, looking at the newly created experiment. Brian Taylor enters and Adam tells him that he will discontinue the project if this one fails. Brian tells him the kid will be their savior and asks him not to give up.

The two exit Adam's office to check up on Kyle, where William Kern is standing with numerous other Zzyzx employees. William refuses Adam access because his emotions towards the subject has ruined his judgment and tells him that he is no longer in charge of Zzyzx.

Declan continued to explain his distrust of Tom Foss while saying that Lori plans to go the woods near Victor Falls, which was situated right next to the ruins of Zzyzx. Kyle persists to try and convince everyone not to go, but the group of kids finally reaches 7, including Andy Jensen, Josh, and Jessi.

The group arrives at the point where the hiker was killed; where Jessi begins to have flashbacks to the day she killed him. Amanda calls everyone over to where Lori climbed into a pipe. Kyle tells Declan that the pipe is an entrace to go into Zzyzx.

Kyle and Declan decide to go in after her, but not before Josh explains his fear and Amanda wishes Kyle luck. Kyle and Declan wander in the darkness, where Declan admits he's claustrophobic. Kyle follows a mysterious figure, when he has another flashback.

Kyle watches as Adam tries to escape the Zzyzx building. Kern finds him and has him and Brian escorted out. Adam says William will not get away with it. Kyle uses the flashback to discover a secret room.

Above ground, the remaining kids compare themselves with Scooby-Doo characters. Jessi is left out, as she has never seen the series and decided to go in after them. Amanda follows.

Kyle follows the mysterious man he assumes in Foss and has another flashback to 1992. He watches Foss and William Kern work around Kyle. Tom plays music, but Kern shuts it off because Kyle can't hear it. William says that Kyle will be put through a “Data Input Retention Test".

Above ground, Josh fails to get a campfire started. Andy complains that he brought Sour Patch Kids but no matches. Andy and Josh have an awkward conversation, where Andy says he plays way too much G-Force. She tells him that fear is a waste of time.

Lori continues to walk around while Jessi and Amanda search for the others. Jessi asks if Amanda is a natural blonde because she heard that "blondes have more funs". She asks why Kyle likes Amanda, and Amanda is uncomfortable with the question. Jessi explains that she and Kyle weren't meant to be and that she has a connection with Kyle. At the same time, she accidentally activates the security door, locking everyone in different rooms.

Lori yells for the others, but they do not reply. She grabs her flashlight and calms herself down before her flashlight goes out. Sounds come from behind her that turn out to be Amanda, with no Jessi to be found.

Declan and Kyle and walking until Kyle has another flashback. William Kern and another technician are doing tests that seem to be failing. Tom watches as William suggests abandoning the project, hesitating only because of the amount of money he would lose if he did.

Josh and Andy are still above ground, where Josh cracks jokes. Josh suggests going back in the car, but Andy says she's not cold, despite shivering under a blanket. Jessi is walking alone when she has a flashback. Jessi watches as Zzyzx burns to the ground.

Kyle and Declan talk about Jessi. Kyle suggested that he's worried that Jessi likes him, but Declan doesn't believe so. He admits that he kissed Amanda and Declan claims he knew it.

Lori and Amanda are having the same conversation with Lori until the two groups meet up. They find out that Jessi is still wandering alone.

Jessi comes across a crack in the floor and has another flashback. The fire contiues as she watches. Jessi screams, causing pockets of methane gas to erupt where the others are standing. Kyle doesn't know how long they have to live.

Declan and Lori argue before he turns and asks Kyle to ask the ghost for an exit. Kyle suddenly sees a map. He instructs the others on finding the exit, be leaves in search of Jessi. Kyle has another flashback. William Kern is told that all of the information on 781227 had been downloaded into 781227's mind. William orders the experiment’s termination, but Tom Foss says that he wouldn't let him.

Josh is with Andy in the car. Andy decided to ask what is up with Josh's avoiding attitude and Josh asks what's up with her no tolerance for his jokes. Josh suggests counting to three and each say what's on their minds. They begin to count. Josh admits his crush on her while Andy admits she has cancer. Their conversation is cut short as they go to help the other to safety.

Kyle continues to search for Jessi; finally finding her huddled in a corner out of fear. The two come out, with Jessi unconscious. Kyle returns to Adam's office to open his safe, finding a mysterious black box. He sees Adam's ghost nod before disappearing.

Kyle stumbles to escape and has another flashback. Tom Foss takes the dead Kyle and tries to resuscitate him. Tom eventually succeeds. Kyle makes it out in time and Amanda manages to revive him, kissing him. Jessi is heartbroken.

Back at home, Lori apologizes for everything, and Kyle says it's okay. Kyle leaves as Declan joins her. They talk about Jessi before she explains to him the healing power of song.

Jessi is out back, alone. Kyle joins her and Jessi admits seeing weird thing she believes she caused. Kyle tells her it was just the gas. Jessi tells him that when he went back for her, it was the first time she didn't feel alone.

Andy tells Josh to forget about what she said and orders him not to tell anyone.

Kyle talks with Amanda, saying how he shouldn't have gone back as he didn't get the box. Amanda reveals that she has the box and gives it back to Kyle. Kyle goes back to Foss' warehouse where he is still trying to figure out who tampered with Baylin's message.

Kyle shows Foss the box and he promises to figure it out. Kyle tries to remember the day Kern betrayed Baylin. Adam and Brian are lead down a hallway when Taylor hits a lever to allow Adam to escape. William says Brian's acting was over-dramatic and Brian explains that it had to look good.

William commends Brian for betraying Adam easily and says that Adam will eventually have to be taken care of. Brian tells him to try. Kyle realizes that it was Brian Taylor who betrayed Adam Baylin.
